Built in 1891 and designed by French missionary Father Eugène Coste, Yakhyeon Church is the first Western-style brick Gothic church in Korea. Known as a smaller version of Myeong-dong Cathedral, it stands near Seosomun Martyrs’ Shrine, honoring the memory of Catholic martyrs. Designated Historic Site No. 252 in 1977, it embodies religious, cultural, and architectural significance in Korea’s modern history.
